UT Administrator and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore today inaugurated a compressed natural gas (CNG) station at Sector 17 here. This is the second CNG station in the city. The first such facility was inaugurated in Sector 44 last year.
UT Adviser Parimal Rai and other senior officers of the Administration were present on the occasion.
Sources said another CNG station would be inaugurated in the city next week. The Administration has approved nine more CNG stations to be opened at petrol pumps located in the various sectors of the city. Additional land near petrol pumps has been okayed for CNG stations. By the year end, CNG will be available at 11 sites in the city.
The Administration is promoting CNG to reduce pollution caused by petrol and diesel-run vehicles. Besides, CNG is cheaper than petrol.
The administration has approved giving permission for the additional land at the filling station in Sectors 10, 17, 20, 31, 34, 39, 42 46 and 56.
